Companion website: "Separation of Church and State Law Blog" (left click to go directly to blog) - this website has many articles and audio teachings concerning the issue of separation of church and state.

Click "Separation of Church and State Law" for topically arranged links to important articles concerning the issue of separation of church and state. Also, the radio broadcasts (see below) are being edited and arranged in a more easy to follow sequence on the blog. On that blog are audio teachings covering all the issues related to separation of church and state, including the biblical principles concerning government, the biblical doctrines of the church and separation of church and state, the history or the First Amendment, Supreme Court relgion clause jurisprudence, incorporation, Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3), etc.

Jerald Finney broadcasted a Church and State Law radio program on Liberty Works Radio Network at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time (8:00 a.m. Central Time, 7:00 a.m. Mountain Time, 6:00 a.m. Pacific Time) on Sunday Mornings for several yearss. Those broadcasts are posted, unedited, in fifteen minute segments, below on this website page after the date of broadcast. You can access those broadcasts by clicking links listed below. Each broadcast is linked in three fifteen minute segments with no commercials or interruptions. On April 4, 2010, the teachings will start anew. To go to the teachings starting on April 4, follow the simple instructions below. Some of the links to older broadcasts are in blue and underlined. Just click a link to go to it.

The issue in these programs is church and state law or separation of church and state, the biblical principles and the American application. This broadcast is actually a course study of the issue of separation of church and state. You should use the book God Betrayed/Separation of Church and State: The Biblical Principles and the American Application which is much more detailed, as you would use a textbook. The broadcast is the class, the book is the textbook. This is a systematic and detailed study of the issue and subissues involved. The study starts at the beginning - salvation. Then, if one is saved, six segments address "Walking in the Spirit in knowledge, understanding, and wisdom." After that, four segments teach on "The Most Important Thing: Loving God and/or Winning Souls?" Then, the broadcasts will systematically develop the doctrines of government, church, and separation of church and state. After that, the studies will get into the American Application of those doctrines - the history of the First Amendment, Supreme Court jurisprudence concerning separation of church and state, and finally, how American churches have betrayed God through becoming legal entities and how churches can legally operate in America without being a legal entity. The outline for the studies is the same outline used in writing the book, God Betrayed.

The student who listens to and studies these teachings, especially in conjunction with reading the book God Betrayed/Separation of Church and State: The Biblical Principles and the American Application, will be equipped with more truth concerning the issue of separation than the vast majority of Christians and others. This series, as does the book, systematically teaches the subject. I suggest that the serious student scan over the outline below, or the table of contents of the book, before beginning his/her study. While scanning the outline, he may want to just click on a subject of particular interest to him just to get a preview of coming attractions.

Until the third segment of the August 9, 2009 broadcast, the segments due to technical problems that were corrected, have some static. Those programs were redone, with new insights along the way, and links to the redone broadcasts are linked to below along with links to the original broadcasts.

April 4, 2010 broadcast. Salvation and Walking in the Spirit in knowledge, understanding, and wisdom": Salvation is the beginning of a new life for any person. "The Most Important Thing: Loving God and/or Winning Souls?"

April 25, 2010 broadcast: "The Most Important Thing: Loving God and/or Winning Souls":   This series began May 24, 2009 and ran through the 1st 15 minute segment of the May 31, 2009 broadcast of Jerald Finney over Liberty Works Radio Network. This is the most important consideration in keeping a church totally separate from the civil government. Many pastors say that the issue of disengaging a church from civil government is an important one, but it is not the most important. They will tell you that the most important thing is winning souls; and that, if it is impractical to disentangle a church from civil government, just go on and do the best you can under that state, because the most important thing is winning souls. This series will prove, from the Bible, that the most important thing is loving God, and if a church loves God with all her heart, soul, mind and strength, she will disentangle herself from civil government and she will also have a great burden for winning souls. Because pastors have dishonored the Lord by becoming legal entities such as incorporated 501(c)(3) religious organizations, our churches have backslidden in many areas, far fewer souls are being saved than had churches honored their spiritual Husband, gross immorality abounds, and political anarchy pervades in America. Section II: Church

Section II, Chapter 1: "Introduction to the biblical doctrine of the church"

June 13, 2010: Segment one is an "Introduction to the biblical doctrine of the church." To understand the issue of separation of church and state, one must understand what the Bible teaches concerning Christ's church and churces. This begins a study of the biblical doctrine of the church. To listen to this segment, click the following link and scroll down  to the broadcast: Radio teachings on the biblical doctrine of the church.

November 15, 2009 (071209)(original broadcast): first 15 min. segment

Section II, Chapter 2: "Definition, organization, and purposes of a church"

June 13, 2010: Segments two and three are "Definition, organization, and purposes of a church": The doctrine of the church was revealed by the Apostle Paul in his New Testament writings. A church is made up of visible people who have made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ. On the other hand, since one cannot see the spiritual condition of a person's heart, in one sense a church, which is a fellowship of believers, is invisible. Therefore, one can be in a visible church, yet unregenerate, lost, and destined for hell. The Roman Catholic "church" is not the only church. In fact, the author questions whether the Roman Catholic "church" is looked at as a church by the Lord Jesus Christ, the only One who can make the determination. This study gets into the biblical teaching on the definition, organization, and purposes of a church. To listen to this segment, click the following link and scroll down  to the broadcast: Radio teachings on the biblical doctrine of the church.

November 15, 2009 (071209)(original broadcasts). second 15 min. segment; third 15 min. segment.

Section II, Chapter 3: "Christ, the Bridegroom/Husband/Head of His  Church"

The material in this chapter plus more was covered in the studies of April 25 and May 2, 2010 (original broadcasts were September 20 and 27, 2009 and are also archived above) and titled "The Most Important Thing: Loving God and/or Winning Souls."

Section II, Chapter 4: "Heresy and Apostasy"

June 20, 2010: Segments one and two concern what the bible teaches about "Heresy and apostasy." Prior to the return of the Lord, the visible churches will go into apostasy. Jerald Finney, in this and the 2nd in this series, goes over what the Bible teaches about this apostasy. The overall issue being considered is separation of church and state. November 22, 2009 (071909)(original broadcast), con't.: third 15 min. segment.

Section II, Chapters 6-8: "Apostasy at the end of the church age;"
"The church will reign with the Lord;"
"Conclusion of biblical principles concerning the church"

June 27, 2010: Segment one teaches on the subjects "Apostasy at the end of the church age," "The church will reign with the Lord," and "Conclusion of the biblical principles concerning the church." The Bible reveals that, at the end of the church age, the Lord will be outside the Laodicean church. The final result of the apostasy will be the great ecclesiastical harlot spoken of in Revelation 17 and 18. Ecclesiastical Babylon (apostate Christendom, the harlot whom many biblical scholars conclude will be headed up under the Papacy and which will at that time condone every iniquity of the rich and will be corrupted to the core by commercialism, wealth, and luxury) will be destroyed by political Babylon, that is by the nations. True Christians have the ultimate hope: they will reign with the Lord. This should be a cause of great rejoicing as well as incentive to be responsible members of the body of Christ and to mke sure that every effort is made to glorify God and assure that a church remains totally under Christ in every way. The Holy Spirit is now calling out, not the subjects, but the co-heirs and co-rulers of the kingdom. November 29, 2009 (072609)(original broadcast): first 15 min. segment.

Section III: Separation of church and state

Section III, Chapter 1:
"Introduction to the biblical principle of separation of church and state"

June 27, 2010: The second and third segments will cover "Introduction to the biblical principle of separation of church and state." Christians have always been persecuted. Our Lord told Christians that they would be persecuted. He was cricified. His apostles were, with the exception of John, martyred. John was exiled. Rome persecuted Christians horribly. After church and state wed under Constantine, true Christians and others labeled as heretics by an heretic-the Roman Catholic Church-were imprisoned, tortured in the most horrific ways conceivable, and killed by beheading, drowning, burning, etc. The persecutions were continued by established Protestant churches. In America, established Protestant churches, including the Puritans (Congregationalists) in New England and Anglicans in the Southern States persecuted dissenters, the chief of whom were the Baptists. The Baptists in the colony of Rhode Island became the first civil government in the history of the world to have relgious liberty under God. Out of the theological warfare in the colonies came the first nation in the world with religious freedom, the United States of America.  Section III, Chapter 2: Definitions
Section III, Chapter 3: "Dispensational Theology versus Covenant Theology"

July 4, 2010: Segment one teaches on "Definitions of 'separation of church and state,' 'established church,' and 'religious freedom or soul liberty," and "Dispensation Theology versus Covenant Theology." A believer must understand these two methods of biblical interpretation before he can understand the theological warfare that resulted in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Section III Chapter 4: "Distinct differences between church and state"

July 11, 2010: Segments two and three will begin the study of "Distinct differences between church and state." These last two segments along with the first segment of July 18, 2010, are very important in understanding the biblical principle of separation of church and state. God ordained civil government as an earthly institution and laid down its purposes and jurisdictional limitations. God later, as recorded in the New Testament, ordained the church as a spiritual institution. He, through the apostle Paul, gave us, in Paul's epistles, the organization, functions, and purposes of churches. Because of distinct differences, God does not desire a church and civil government to work together or under or over the other. These distinct differences and the biblical doctrine of separation of church and state teach that Covenant Theology is a false theology. The importance of this will become apparent as these studies continue. To listen to these segments, click the following link and scroll sown to the broadcast: Radio Teaching on the biblical doctrine of separation of church and state.

Section III, Chapters 5-6 and
The book, Render Unto God the Things that Are His:
A Systematic Study of Romans 13 and Related Verses

July 18, 2010: Segments two and three begin the study of "Render Unto God the Things that Are His: A Systematic Study of Romans 13 and Related Verses." This study continues into the first and second segments of 8/23/09. Romans 13 and 1 Peter 2.13 are incorrectly cited out of context more than any other verses to justify almost total obedience by Christians and churches to civil government in all matters. For Romans 13 (or any part of it), 1 Peter 2.13, or 2 Timothy 2.1-6 to mean such a thing would make Romans 13, 1 Peter 2.13, and 1 Timothy 2.1-6 inconsistent within itself and within the context of Scripture as a whole. Christians should be ideal citizens, but ideal citizens run into trouble with a tyrannical out-of-control civil government which sets its own standards and does not follow those standards of the Supreme Ruler of the universe. These studies reveal the true meaning of those verses.

The material in this chapter plus more was covered in the studies of April 25, and May 2 of 2010 (and in the original May 24 and May 31, 2009 broadcasts)(and archived above) and titled "The Most Important Thing: Loving God and/or Winning Souls."

Part II
The American Application
Section IV:
The History of Religious Freedom in America

Section IV, Chapter 1: "Introduction"

July 25, 2010: The third segment of this broadcast will begin the study of the "Introduction to History of Religious Freedom in America."  As this study progresses, the Christian who has listened closely to the previous broadcasts will begin to understand the importance of all the prior broadcasts in the issue of separation of church and state and the history of the First Amendment. The historical facts presented in this section should be taught in every American History class. Only when one knows history (plus biblical theology and law) can he understand where he came from, where he is, and where he is going. Only when one knows the facts presented in these studies and included in books by Jerald Finney in more detail, can he understand how we got our First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
This begins the study of the American application of the biblical principle of separation of church and state. Since the beginning of the church, Christians believed and practiced separation of church and state. They paid dearly for this practice. In the fourth century certain religious leaders were seduced by Constantine to join hands with the state. Over a thousand years of the worst persecutions imaginable followed as religion worked hand in hand with the state to enforce all ten of the commandments. Anyone who did not bow down to the theology of the state church was imprisoned, horriby tortured, burned alive, drowned, buried alive, beheaded, etc. as the state religion tried to stamp out all forms of what they called "heresy." The Protestant churches followed the theology of their mother in this matter and continued the persecution. However, forces and circumstances were such in the American colonies that the final result was the first nation, the second civil government behind the colony of Rhode Island, to have religious liberty.

Section IV, Chapter 5: "The Pilgrims and Puritans in Massachusetts"

August 1, 2010: The third segment of this broadcast will begin the study of "The Pilgrims and the Puritans in Massachusetts." This segment begins an examination and unedited study of the facts about the Puritans, Pilgrims, Anglicans, and other sects. Few Christians know that the Puritans, Anglicans, and other Protestants established churches in the colonies and used the arm of the state to persecute dissenters. Protestants discarded much of the false Roman Catholic theology, but retained parts of that theology included the theology used to justify union of church and state and the persecution of those labeled as "heretics" by the state church. This segment unveils the theology and acts of those churches, including the persecution of many dissenters.

Section IV, Chapter 7: "The Separates and Baptists in New England"

August 29, 2010: This broadcast will continue the study of "The Separates and Baptists in New England." As a result of the revival of the "Great Awakening" which came about when George Whitefield went through New England preaching in 1740 and 1744, many people were saved. Many of those ended up leaving the Puritan Congregationalist church and becoming "Separates." Many of those became Baptists. Among those were Isaac Backus, Shubal Sterns, and Daniel Marshall. The names of those men should be household words in America. Their efforts were extremely instrumental in the ratification of the First Amendment to the Unites States Constitution. This study and the irrefutable facts presented should be taught every student of American History.

Section VI, Chapter 1 of God Betrayed and
Chapter 1 of Separation of Church and State:
"Introduction"

September 26, 2010. This material is taken from Separation of church and state/God's Churches: Spiritual or Legal Entities? as well as from Section VI of God Betrayed. To hear the first 15 minute segment of this broadcast click the following link and scroll down the broadcast: Radio Broadcasts: God Betrayed/Union of Church and State.

Section VI, Chapter 2 of God Betrayed and
Chapter 2 of Separation of Church and State:
"Incorporation of churches"

September 26, 2010. The second and third 15 minute segments get into exactly what incorporation of churches means. By law, for example, the state is the sovereign of the corporate part of a church. Incorporation creates several contracts to which God and His principles have no place. All the attributes of incorporation are described in this teaching. It should be perfectly clear to any Christian who has any spiritual discernment whatsoever that a church who chooses to incorporate is out of the perfect will of our Lord. Incorporation of a church grieves the  Lord Jesus Christ. Section VI, Chapter 4 of God Betrayed and
Chapter 4 of Separation of Church and State:
"Federal government control of churches  through 501(c)(3) tax exemption"

October 3, 2010. The first segment, "Federal government control of churches through 501(c)(3) tax exemption," teaches on Internal Revenue Code ("IRC") Section 501(c)(3) and other aspects of the IRC as applied to churches. Rules go along with 501(c)(3) status. Four of those rules are clearly stated in 501(c)(3). A fifth has been added by the Internal Revenue Service and upheld by court decision. A church that asks for and receives 501(c)(3) status from the federal government should know what they are subjecting themselves to, but many just want their cake and eat it too. They want the status without the baggage that goes along with it. It does not work like that. This study continues into the second 15 minute segment. Section VI, Chapter 5 of God Betrayed and
Chapter 5 of Separation of Church and State:
"The incorporation-501(c)(3) control scheme"

October 3, 2010. The second 15 min. segment teaches on the "Incorporation-501(c)(3) control scheme." Incorporation and 501(c)(3) of churches without doubt give both the state and federal governments a great degree of control over churches. By utilizing these devices, churches submit themselves to another head. Jesus Christ is not the only head of corporate 501(c)(3) churches. These type churches may know about Jesus, but they do not have an intimate personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ who, according to His Word, wants them to choose Him - their Bridegroom, Husband, and Head - as their only Head. Section VI, Chapter 6 of God Betrayed and
Chapter 6 of Separation of Church and State:
"Spurious rationale for incorporating: limited liability"

October 3, 2010. The third 15 minute segment on this date also teaches on "Spurious rationale for Incorporating: limited liability." Christians and churches are easily misled. They are directed by the principles they have learned in America, and many times do not examine what they are told. Limited liability is one of the main reasons Christians give for incorporating. Yet, an examination of the biblical principles and legal and practical facts concerning incorporation of churches and the supposed benefits reveal that incorporation gives less temporal protection than does proceeding according to the  principles of God, and under our Lord Jesus Christ only. Furthermore, incorporating certainly takes from the eternal benefits which are available to believers. Section VI, Chapter 7 of God Betrayed and
Chapter 6 of Separation of Church and State:
"Spurious rationale for incorporating: to hold property"

October 10, 2010. No good reason exists for incorporating a church. As has been shown in previous lessons, incorporation and 501(c)(3) of a church violates biblical principles and grieves our Lord. Nonetheless, many churches believe that they must incorporate to hold property. Nothing is farther from the truth. Additionally, churches in America may utilize property without owning it, and they may do so in a manner in conformity with biblical principles. All three March 21 segments teach on incorporation of churches in order to hold property.
