In God Betrayed and the books listed below, Jerald Finney gets deeply into the biblical doctrines concerning government, church, and state, and applies those doctrines to the American legal and Christian landscape. God Betrayed serves a significant function in that it is a scholarly and comprehensive look at the issues, and the application of those issues in America. Any American, whether born again Christian or not, will find this book of great benefit in understanding the issue of separation of church and state in the United States. Believers worldwide will glean much from the book concerning the biblical principles mentioned above, because those principles are the same everywhere.Through no fault of their own, most pastors and Christians have never studied church and state law in depth. They were not taught the relevant doctrines at church or anywhere else, including their Bible School, Bible Institute, Bible College, or Seminary. This in spite of the fact that “Christ loved the church and gave himself for it,” in spite of the fact that the Bible deals extensively with these doctrines, in spite of the fact that the incorrect biblical interpretation of these doctrines by established churches resulted in the murder of millions of those who refused to bow down to the false theologies of established churches, and in spite of the fact that proponents of the false church and state law doctrine--led by the creator of the doctrines (the Catholic "church" which has changed her techniques in America to lure in probably millions of unsuspecting and ignorant followers) have deceived even "Bible believing pastors and Christians" into promoting a union of church and state.
Whether you totally agree with Finney on all his theology, you will at least be challenged to think about church and state law issues. Finney believes that most Bible-believing followers of Christ will agree with his theology, and that no mature disciple of Christ will disagree with his conclusions concerning the union of church and state through incorporation, charitable trust, corporation sole, unincorporated association, 501(c)(3), etc. A widespread consideration of the issues must take place before we can hope to turn the tide for the cause of Christ in America. As you know, pastors answer to God first—not their denomination or anyone else. They are responsible under God to provide correct biblical teaching in all matters of doctrine and to keep heresy out of the churches they pastor. "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry" (2 Timothy 4.1-5 ).
Only with a proper understanding of the true foundation and history of First Amendment principles can one hope to protect those freedoms guaranteed in that Amendment. Sadly, most Christian and secular explanations of the history of the Amendment and the principles from which it is derived are revised or otherwise flawed. The secular revisionist, being spiritually blind, cannot analyze something which he does not understand. Since he does not know God, he cannot understand God. The “Christian” revisionist operates according to unsound biblical principles, and justifies lying to deceive those Christians who correctly disagree with his false theology. He does this to further his ultimate unattainable goal of preparing the earth for the Lord’s return through a marriage of church and state.
To understand the issue of separation of church and state, one must understand the biblical principles concerning church, state, and separation of church and state. The epistles of Paul developed the doctrine of the church. Two opposing theologies, one true (separation of church and state is biblical) and one false (the Bible teaches union of church and state) have engaged in a spiritual battle since the early church, that battle has resulted in the persecution, torture, imprisonment, and murder of untold millions of true believers by the established churches (starting with the Catholic "church" and then continuing with the Catholic and Protestant churches in Europe and America before the adoption of the Constitution), and that battle continues until this day.
Part One of God Betrayed explains the biblical principles concerning church, state, and separation of church and state and lays out the basic underlying interpretations of Scripture that have been at war since segments of the church began to stray from biblical guidelines, then wed the state under the Roman Emperor Constantine, and thereby became a spiritual harlot. After that union, the resulting state-church set out to destroy all heretics—that is, all those who made a choice which contradicted a doctrine of the state-church. As explained by Leonard Verduin in The Anatomy of a Hybrid (See Books by other authors below), “the church could liquidate its competition by hands other than its own, thus keeping its own garment unsoiled by the blood of its victims.”
Once the biblical foundation is laid in Part One of God Betrayed, the author, in Part Two, looks at the American application of the principles concerning church, state, and separation of church and state. He first summarizes the history of the First Amendment, including the theological warfare between the state-churches or church-states and the dissenters and the persecution of dissenters that took place in the colonies. Then he analyzes Supreme Court treatment of “separation of church and state.” The First Amendment religion clause correctly interpreted is an accurate statement of the biblical doctrine of church and state law. The Supreme Court has clearly and correctly stated that the First Amendment has created a wall that protects the church from the state. Because of this, New Testament churches still have the protection of the highest law of the land. Finally, the author looks at the seduction of churches by civil government through laws which have enticed churches to willingly abandon Supernatural and First Amendment protection in exchange for state “cheese.”
The book is filled with biblical, historical, and legal facts which are absolutely necessary to an accurate understanding of the preeminent issues concerning separation of church and state and church and state law. It is not a rehash of information that has been disseminated to Christians for many years. Finishing the book required years of Bible study and legal and historical research. The book is 6” x 9” in size 10 font with indented quotes and footnotes in size 8 font. The body, excluding the Preface and Introduction is 430 pages long and is packed with a wealth of biblical, historical, and legal information.

The Most Important Thing: Loving God and/or Winning Souls? is now available. This 23 page booklet is 5 ½” x 8 ½” in size 12 font. This booklet is a biblical study of God’s perspective of love and challenges the sincere Christian as well as the church body who is already or is considering becoming a legal entity such as a 501(c)(3) incorporation, charitable trust, corporation sole, unincorporated association, etc. as to their love for the Lord. The retail price of the book is $4.95. With this offer you may order the book for $3.50 plus $2.00 mailing and handling plus (for Texas orders only) $0.33 sales tax from Kerygma Publishing Company, C/O Jerald Finney, P.O Box 1346, Austin, TX 78767. Quantity discounts are available. Jerald Finney may be reached at 512-385-0761 or 512-785-8445. His e-mail is [email protected]. This booklet is also available through Amazon Kindle; you can go there by clicking the above link.
Render Unto God the Things that are His: A Systematic Study of Romans 13 and Related Verses. This 50 page book is 5 ½” x 8 ½” in size 12 font with indented quotes and footnotes in size 10 font. The book examines the following issue: “To what degree do Romans 13 and related Bible verses teach submission by Christians and churches to civil government?” If one believes that a church is required to or should become according to the Word of God a legal entity such as a 501(c)(3) incorporation, corporate sole, charitable trust, unincorporated association, etc., this book will prove that his belief is not supported by an accurate interpretation of the scriptural doctrine of church and state law. Fortunately, the First Amendment to the United States Constitution protects New Testament churches in that it is a statement of the true biblical principle of separation of church and state (Note. The First Amendment does not separate God and state. See God Betrayed). The retail price is $6.95 plus $2.25 mailing and handling plus (for Texas orders only) $0.57 sales tax. You can order the book from Kerygma Publishing Company, C/O Jerald Finney, P.O Box 1346, Austin, TX 78767 for the special price of $5.00 plus $1.75 mailing and handling plus $0.41 sales tax for Texas orders. Quantity discounts are available by calling Jerald Finney at 512-385-0761 or 512-785-8445. His e-mail is [email protected]. Separation of Church and State/God’s Churches: Spiritual or Legal Entities? You may preview the book the title, or by clicking here: Preview Separation of Church and State (notice that "Separation" is spelled wrong on the cover page. This was a mistake made by the publisher. Jerald Finney has notified them, and the spelling is now being corrected for book orders.) The 98 page book is 5 ½” x 8 ½” in size 12 font with indented quotes and footnotes in size 10 font. This book shows bibilcally that God desires churches to choose to be spiritual entities, the meaning of "spiritual entity" in reference to individual believers and churches, and the meaning of earthly or legal entity. Then the book explains the true nature of the incorporated, 501(c)(3) churches, the fact that the civil government knows what it is doing in seducing churches to become legal entities (the civil government controls and defines state churches, instructs them to remain within the four walls of a building contrary to biblical doctrine, and also goes inside those four walls to further control those churches), the spurious reasons Christians give for choosing to prostitute the churches they are members of by making them at least partially legal or earthly entities, and methods whereby a church can operate without persecution and according to biblical principles for God's churches and utilize property in a manner which honors God without violating any civil law in America--in fact, doing so under the protection of the First Amendment to the United States Constituion. You can order the book from Kerygma Publishing Company, C/O Jerald Finney, P.O Box 1346, Austin, TX 78767 for the special price of $7.00 plus $2.50 mailing and handling plus $0.58 sales tax for Texas orders. Most of the following books (as well as many others) were read by Jerald Finney and cited in the books listed above. You may order by clicking the Amazon link next to each book name.
The Anatomy of a Hybrid: A Study in Church State Relations by Leonard Verduin is "a powerful monograph on the evils of the ancient sacral states, the tragic union of church and state from the fourth century, and the monstrous tragedies of all totalitarianisms. The book is based on thorough research, displays keen wit and cool courage, and is written in a vigorous and clear style. It is especially appropriate to release this book on America's bicentennial, for it was here that the evil union of church and state was ... broken by the First Amendment. Highly recommended." --J. C. Wenger. To order from Amazon:
The Reformers and Their Stepchildren by Leonard Verduin. "The coalition of church and state has continually had outspoken opponents since its' inception in the 4th century under Constantine. All through the long medieval night of papal terror and up to the present day of accommodation and compromise, there has never been a time when the voice of dissent and nonconformity was not heard, protesting against established religion and coerced uniformity. The most prominent target of that protest has been the arrogant usurpation of Christ's Kingly Authority and Headship over His churches and the souls of men, whether that usurpation was Roman Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, Presbyterian, or any other. As it has been, so shall it ever be.This enduring testimony of dissent, this genuine Christian nonconformity arises as the inevitable response of the Christian soul to the internal witness of the Spirit toward the truth and supreme authority of God's Word. Consequently, the origin, nature and history of Christ's churches can never be adequately discerned or explained apart from some grasp of the Biblical Truths advocated and defended throughout the history of genuine Christian Dissent and Nonconformity. As Dr. J. S. Whale, former Professor of Ecclesiastiacl History, Mansfield College, Oxford University, said, 'Dissent, not only from the centralized absolutism of Rome, but also from State establishments of Protestantism in the Old World is an historic fact of enduring influence. To account for the tradition of liberty in the 'free world' of today without reference to dissent would be to read modern history with one eye shut.'" To order from Amazon:

The New World Religion: The Spiritual Roots of Global Government by Gary H. Kah. From the back cover: "THE NEW WORLD RELIGION presents insightful clarification between authentic biblical Christianity and the occult teachings of the 'New Age' by explaining the religious underpinnings of a dangerous, yet rapidly growing movement. Gary Kah documents growing 'empowerment' of the U.N., soon to be felt by us all as new international laws and regulations become fully enforecable in the new millennium. This compelling book takes issue with hidden agendas aimed at destroying our Christian herigage and encourages a stand for righteousness and faithfulness to the teachings o fJesus Christ in the expectation of His imminent return." My comments: see the unfolding of the one world religion and government as prophesied in the Bible by reading the facts in this book.

The Trail of Blood Revisited: Christ's True Church: It's Past, Present and Future by Dr. Greg Dixon. From the "Forward" by Dr. Robert McCurry: "In this book, Dr. Greg Dixon provides a brief historical and contemporary overview of some of the conflicts the Lord's Church has encountered and the ever-increasing efforts of civil government to ensnare and control the Lord's Church.... The real issue is, Who is Lord? Who is the Head of the Lord's Church -- the Lord Jesus Christ or civil government? The Christian and the Lord's Church answer with clear and unwavering, nonnegotiable answer: Jesus Christ is the sole Lord and Head of His Church! ... Dr. Greg Dixon provides some practical guidelines on how the Lord's Church can function in the real world free from civil government entanglement. Hopefully, this book will ignite a flame of concern and interest that will result in an application of the essential biblical truth that Jesus Christ is the sole Lord and Head of His Church."
I have read this book at least three times and referred to it many times. Dr. Greg Dixon, the author, is Pastor Emeritus of Indianapolis Baptist Temple, which was the eleventh largest church in the nation in the 1970s. When Dr. Dixon began to learn the truth about incorporation and 501(c)(3) of churches, he (as pastor of IBT), acted to disentangle the church from the government. A long, hard fight with the civil government ensued. Today, in 2009, IBT has emerged as a vibrant New Testament Church under the leadership of Dr. Dixon's son, Pastor Greg A. Dixon. IBT is an example from whom Christians in America can glean much spiritual insight.
You may order The Trail of Blood Revisited from Greg Dixon, P.O. Box 11, Indianapolis, Indiana 46206 for $10.00 which includes postage and handling. The History of the Baptists by Thomas Armitage, published in 1886. Thomas Armitage was saved in 1831 at the age of 12 in Yorkshire, England. Wnen very young, he was licensed to preach. At age twenty he left his native land and came to the United States. He never left his God-given gifts. Few stand higher among the American ministry or more honored than the Great Master, Dr. Thomas Armitage of New York. Dr. Armitage was "a scholarly man, full of information, with a powerful intellect; one of the greatest preachers in the United States; regarded by many as the foremost man in the American pulpit.... [A] gentleman wrote of Dr. Armitage, 'The expression of his face is one of mingled intelligence and kindness. As he converses it is with animation, and his eyes sparkle. His manners are easy, graceful, and cordial. He fascitates strangers and delights friends. He appears before you a polished gentleman, who wins his way to your esteem and affection by his exalted worth.' This description has been confirmed by time" (from introductory biography in the reprint of the 2 volume work). This is a truly remarkable and enligntening work.

7 Men Who Rule the World from the Grave by Dave Breese. “Though their bodies lie cold and dormant, the grave cannot contain the influence these seven men have had on today’s world. They continue to rule because they have altered the thinking of society. They generated philosophies that have been ardently grasped by masses of people but are erroneous and antiscriptural. Today these ideas pervade our schools, businesses, homes, even the church. As we continue to unknowingly subscribe to their philosophies we keep the grave open for Charles Darwin…, Karl Marx…, Julius Wellhausen…, John Dewey…, Sigmund Freud…, John Maynard Keynes…, and Soren Kierkegaard. Dave Breese warns us of the dangers of believing unreservedly the ideas of these seven men. He also reminds us of the only man whose life and words we can trust completely—Jesus Christ.”
One Nation Under Law: America's Early National Struggles to Separate Church and State by Mark Douglas McGarvie. "McGarvie offers a searching reexamination of disestablishmenht in early national America and the role of contract law in that process. This nuanced and thoughtful book deserves a wide readership among historians and all students of church-state separation." Christine Leigh Heyrman, University of Delaware.

The Puritan Dilemma: The Story of John Winthrop by Edmund S. Morgan. This book chronicles the attempts of the Puritans to achieve perfection in the frontier of the New World. They believed that they were the right people, at the right time and place to show the world what could be achieved by those who would do things God's way in structuring a society. As pointed out in God Betrayed, their attempts were doomed for failure and did fail because their theology concerning church and state was derived from the false theology implemented by the Roman Catholic "church," adopted by Protestant churches which came out of the Roman Catholic church, and brought to America by the Puritans, Anglicans, and others.
